JT Schmid’s has been a client of ours for a fairly long time, and among our work at On the Edge, I’d say it’s easily our best. The website, however, hadn’t aged very gracefully; after 8 years, the medium had evolved by leaps and bounds and their site was looking a bit dated. When JT Schmid’s announced the opening of their second location, we were given the opportunity to update the website and bring it up to date with their branding on the design side, and the 21st century on the development side.
For some reason, I absolutely love rehabilitating older websites. Taking the content of a ~40 page table-based site, and loading it into a database back-end, with clean XHTML and CSS up front is one of my favourite parts of the job. Don’t ask me why, I’m a sick puppy when it comes to this stuff.
Highlights: Here’s the first site where I was able to develop a series of plugins and widgets for Wordpress which we were then able to use on each site afterwards. Being able to manage code-reuse on this scale is fantastic, and when I can help deliver a site on budget and ahead of time, everyone’s happy.
